LOCAL HEROES SHOW 28TH APRIL 2015

Every year the hype around the London Marathon gets greater. This year is no exception. With so many local people running, it was great to get some of our “Local Heroes” in.

Graham Williams was our first guest in. Graham was running his eighth London Marathon and thirtieth in all. This year in particular was a special year for Graham. It was his 70th birthday. As a committee member of the Stafford Harriers running London is always a special time as there is always great support from fellow Harriers, but this year he had family all lining the route in different places. When he reached the end he was greeted with a t-shirt commemorating his birthday. A massive well done to Graham from all of his friends at Stafford FM.

We then had Holly Wright in the studio with her family. Holly didn’t feel that just running the London Marathon was tough enough, she decided to run the Paris Marathon two weeks previous then walk the 180 miles from Paris to London. She did this in the name of a great charity. She has currently raised over £5000 for Macmillan Cancer Charity, a charity very close to her heart. Holly lost her mum to cancer and vowed to everything she could to try and help others. Holly said to us that without the massive support from her imediate family this challenge would have been impossible. Well done Holly.

Finally, friend of the show Chris Elsley came in to talk about his London Marathon experience. Chris commented on how he totally underestimated how difficult running the 26.2 miles is. Like so many others, he now has a new found respect for the distance.
